> This is what I want more from them - Colbert > making fun of JB's outfits and jazziness; JB > making fun of how white and nerdy Colbert is.
I don't think Mr. Batiste is nearly as interested in participating in that as you'd like. There have been a couple of times where Colbert set Batiste up with easy chances to deliver a line, and Batiste just let them pass. Maybe as Jon becomes more comfortable, he'll be more willing to engage, but he's apparently not looking to be Paul Shaffer. (And if that's not who he is, he's doing the right thing.) I found the following quote from one of the Variety articles interesting: "And late-night is now a very profitable thing for us with Colbert and [James] Corden [of ‘The Late Late Show’], while as in the latter years of Letterman and [Craig] Ferguson it wasn’t,” said Leslie Moonves, chief executive of CBS, at a November presentation to investors. It's easy to imagine that Dave and his longtime staff had gotten very expensive. But the Late Late Show? They must have paid Ferguson a LOT of money, because they certainly didn't put it into the production. Corden's show looks more expensive, so he must be getting a lot less than Craig was. -- -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
