Thanks Ed, that's kind of what I was thinking. I mean, I know there are others who have had this problem with Time Machine, because there are plenty of questions returned in searches for the error. I also know that my single other data point, a friend of mine, uses the default case-insensitivity, and has encountered this error.
I have occasionally had to go in and delete backups to free up space. I used the command line TM tools, but maybe that corrupted something. I think this time around, I'm going to partition the new 2TB drive and dedicate one (probably 750GB) partition to Time Machine, leaving the default case-insensitive setting. That way, when it fills up, TM can deal with removing the oldest backups and I don't have to worry about it anymore. The other partition I'll use for storing my other files, and maybe there it doesn't matter if it's case-sensitive so much. Hopefully this will avoid the error in the future. -Adam On Fri, Jan 30, 2015 at 6:53 AM, Edward Ned Harvey (lopser) < lop...@nedharvey.com> wrote: > > From: tech-boun...@lists.lopsa.org [mailto:tech-boun...@lists.lopsa.org] > > On Behalf Of Adam Levin > > > > Short version of the question: what format do you generally prefer for > your > > external USB hard drives used with Macs -- case-sensitive or not? > > Always use the default expected by OSX, which is case-insensitive.
