Always use the default expected by OSX, which is case-insensitive. Any time you stray from the beaten path, you introduce yourself to error conditions that the original software developers never bothered testing (or didn't test as thoroughly.) I have often given this advice about the OS drive. Less often, I have given the same advice about external drives.
