I'll go ahead and second Windows 8.1.  I finally wiped my Lenovo T410 clean
of Win 7 home edition (which was limiting anyway) because it was slow as
anything.  I decided to go ahead with 8.1, and I'm pretty satisfied.  It
was much simpler to install, and while the interface takes some getting
used to, it does seem quicker and more streamlined.  As long as you can run
iTunes on it, I'd say go with 8.1.
