  John,

  You appear to be gravitating towards PalmOS devices, which is
understandable if you and/or your wife have used that platform in the
past.  If you're willing to consider a different platform, I'd suggest
looking at an Apple iPod.

  An Apple iPod Touch has many of the capabilities of a smartphone but
without the phone part, so there's no cell phone plan cost.  It has
Wifi support so it can connect to your home network, and since it's a
current product, you can buy a new device with a support plan rather
than trying to buy/support used Palm gear.

  I haven't used it, but I see Documents to Go has an iPod Touch
version.  There are a variety of other apps you can download from the
App Store for the iPod Touch and iTunes, the desktop software, runs on
modern 64-bit Windows systems like Vista and Windows 7.
