What about security. Authentication and Autorization.
Does Cognition plan to provide some solution for that?

Funny you should ask, I am just wrapping up Spring ACEGI integration. We also plan on making a web application to support its configuration so users can easily modify users/groups/roles/persmissions for pages etc.

I often see messages in the Hibernate forum from people encountering
annotation misbehavior in places where hbm mapping works just fine.
The bottom line: at this time hbm mapping is more stable and robust.

My doubts are:

Why using hbm.xml files instead of annotations It looks like the
hibernate community is moving toward annotations?

Is the generation of persistent objects based only in the db schema or
can the schema be generated based on the Entity/POJOS?

It looks like Tapestry is gonna move toward getting ride of the xml spec
files. Does cognition compare on any way with Spindle when it comes to
validate Tapestry pages and components?

I have asked this same question in the Trails newsgroup, but it seems to
me that if Cognition uses hivemind, things like the Persistence
Framework or any of its part could be replace just extending
configuration points. So that people won't be forced to use Hibernate,
etc...

Can Cognition work with specless pages and components?

Thanks. It looks like a very promising project

Raul Raja.

Hello,

I copied this from the nightly builds, I'll try to get this resolved
shortly. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi,

the presentation looks really great. I wanted to try the modeler, but
it
seems there are some missing classes/packages.

This sounds great! Good work guys :) I prefer using jdk 5 and
hibernate
exclusively and might actually be able to use something like this.

This looks interesting at first glance (a little soon to give a

about it).

A couple of questions that pop to mind right off the bat:

Do I have to be using JDK 5.0?
Do I have to be using Hibernate?

Yes, currently you have to use both JDK 5.0 and Hibernate.
Hibernate
filters are used extensively for searches. Currently the grid
component
can be mapped to any named query, the search component applies
filters
to this query to limit results.

I'm sure I'll come up with more questions if I get the time to
really
dive

into this, but these are a couple of showstoppers for me.

We are proud to announce the Alpha release of the Cognition

Accompanying it is an Eclipse Plug-in called the Cognition
Modeler,
a
GUI

tool
for working with Tapestry and the Cognition Framework.

http://dev.thelabllc.com/cognition/viewlets/cognition_intro.htm

We've been listening closely to the mailing list and have come
across
many

of
the same problems in our own development. Here are some of the
goals we
achieve with the Cognition Framework:

1. Lower the bar of entry for Tapestry.
2. The ability to start quickly with Hibernate and Spring, and
not be
bogged
down with configuration.
3. Have some common practices and standards in terms of
application
design and
approach.
4. Provide GUI tools for Tapestry 4. We look forward to
contributing
to

Spindle and integrating this within the Beta.
5. Provide a framework that is fully extensible.
6. Rapid Application Development for Tapestry and the rest of
the
OS
application stack.

So give it a download, try it out, give feedback and get
involved. We
apologize
in advance about the lack of documentation, we are working
aggressively
on

this,
as we've been focusing on getting out the Alpha.

Right now we are at EclipseCon. Lots of big vendors have fancy,
complicated,
expensive tools for JSF.

The Tapestry community needs more tools - ones that are simple,
affordable, easy
to use and allow us to solve problems quickly. We think
Cognition
Framework is
on the right path and look forward to having it grow and serve
the
needs
of the
Tapestry community and beyond.
