A similar but not exact issue that I've run into is in Texas we have "Curbside" grocery store and take out. So some parking spots are reserved for venues to deliver goods to your car. The word "pickup" can be confused with that. We may want to think about either merging the two concepts/implementations of "I'm coming to get something I ordered", or differentiating them.

Thanks for bringing that up. I already discovered that Tesco in the UK has carports for such "curbside" pickup (although they call it Click & Collect). While building=carport would combine well with amenity=pickup_point, that obviously doesn't work with amenity=parking. I guess the reserved parking spots could be mapped as an area tagged with amenity=pickup_point on top of a larger area tagged with amenity=parking. How does that sound? I am open to other ideas.

(Obligatory P.S. that I have again largely revised the proposal: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposal:Pickup_points).
