while it is true that you can mark the urban zones this way (in some cases, see below), it isn't how maxspeed works as of now: you also have to add an explicit value anyway, which you can only do if you know under whose competence the road falls, and what limit is the default. A problem with maxspeed:type is that the proponents haven't learnt from the experiences made in the past 8 years. The tag works exactly the same as does source:maxspeed. If I were to redesign the tagging I'd want to seperate the tags for the traffic zone (urban, rural, etc.) from the type of speed limit (implicit / explicit), because it is a valuable information alone. As it stands, you can only tell rural from urban streets if they don't have a maxspeed sign. Cheers, Martin
