I announced the Jabber Bible chat bot earlier in sword-devel list. Now it has been developed further and tested (thanks to Andre Braselmann for testing).
The bot works natively in Jabber/XMPP network. It works also natively in Google Talk because G.T. actually uses Jabber/XMPP protocol. Through special gateways or transports it works also with other IM systems. I have tested it with MSN 1-to-1 and groupchat. It should work with Yahoo!, ICQ, AIM etc. Basically it's possible that the bot hangs on an IRC channel but it would require more work. If you want to run the bot on your machine you need Python >= 2.3 and jabber.py library. It's easy to set up and runs in Linux, WinXP and probably other systems. If you want to chat with the bot, you have to know an IM adress of some running instance. Then you can add it to your buddy list/roster/contacts, start a chat and type e.g. "help" or "joh1:1". The bot has a diatheke frontend which can be used also independently from command line. It's quite nice if you need to read Bible in text mode. The bot can use all the modules diatheke can use. Module options (strongs etc.) work, Unicode characters work. See http://iki.fi/eelik/jabberbiblebot/ . There are software packages and some old screenshot and a conversation log. A project is pending on http://www.jabberstudio.org. Ask me if you want to know more, but first download the (small) package and read the README. The bot has quite extensive online help system.
