Sorry to keep dusting off this old thread, but after a few months I thought I'd
share my thoughts on the option I eventually went with for my DR-680, which was
to use Powerex 2700 mAh NIMH AA rechargeable batteries and the Powerex MH-C801D
charger.

On a full charge, the batteries last over five (5) hours with the 680 running
with phantom power on channels 1-4. In "soft mode" the charger usually manages
to recharge them in a couple of hours - I've never felt the need for the
accelerated one-hour charge. Granted, the batteries are still "new", and I'm
not a heavy user, having recorded maybe 12 long sessions since getting them
back in September. Still, so far I have to say I'm quite happy with them.

for what it's worth,

j
