Sorry Timothy, I thought this thread was about projects to be worked on for
Stellarium and there is a long list of items in the spread sheet without
resorting other's pet new ideas.

I did not know that the aims of Stellarium had been abandoned. In fact as far
as I know the statement to release version 1.0.0 after 0.10.6 is still
projected. The "bug fix" releases of 0.11.x were only because there had not
been a release for some time due to problems in completing the required tasks.

The problem with that advice is that the spreadsheet is no longer relevent. As
the WIKI states: "A decision was made that the next version after 0.10.6 would
be the long-awaited 1.0.0. (Unless there are significant bugs in 0.10.6 that
warrant a bug fix release.) "
Even this has not been adhered to.

Anyway, whereas this would be a fine general discussion, it does not apply to
any of the GSoC inquires, which this is. Barry: please start a new topic if
you wish to continue to discuss releases.

John: people are talking about both of those ideas, but there is a lot of churn
(as would be expected). Either one of those ideas could easily take two people
working on them. You are also welcome to recommend your own idea for features
for GSoC. The general idea we had was for improvements in the OpenGL feature
area, and with an application like this, there is a lot more that could be
done. One of the branches that was started deals with mapping in images from
the big telescopes. That's another great idea.

Open the main page of the stellarium wiki and see the last item on the last
column "release Sccedule
Click on that and on the second line of dialogue click on "this feature list
spreadsheet'
You will find the task list. The items in blue are needed for the release of
version 1.0.0
You will also see other items that are required later and some have no one
working on
