Hello...

I'm a Computer Science student and I'm really interested in two of the
given ideas in [1]: "Satellite and ring shadows on parent planets" and
"Irregular Solar System bodies".

I "lurked" the pubdevel mailing list trying to find out if any of
these ideas was already "occupied" by anyone, and It seemed the
"Irregular Solar System bodies" was already "used". Since I was
thinking in submiting a proposal for the same idea, I decided to ask
here if is there the possibility that two students are selected to the
same proposal. Is there?

Anyway, I am also interested in the other idea, "Satellite and ring
shadows on parent planets" (and, actually, right now, I intend to
submit a proposal for this idea). But I think I didn't understand some
points:

1 - When you say "satellites and rings", you are talking only about
the planets from the Solar system, right?
2 - should I take into account only the light coming from the sun,
when generating a shadow for a planet? (should I suppose that the
light coming from the other starts is "meaningless"?)
3 - You expect me to choose/develop a proper algorithm to make the
satellites and rings cast the proper shadow, right? (or is there
already a well-known algorithm that is really good for that?)
4 - I couldn't find yet in the code, but I think the answer must be
easy enough: Can I suppose that the planets are spheroids? (I believe
that the answer is "yes", because of the other referred idea)

I will take a good look at the code, define a timeline and submit a
proposal. I'd like to know also if you are "rushing the students"
(i.e., prefer that they submit as soon as possible) or if I can wait
some more time. I'm not sure if I can change the proposal after
submitting and I'm a little afraid of submitting and then regreting
that I didn't write something.

Finally, sorry for the long e-mail and my bad english.

Thanks in advance...
