We've had a lot of projects recently where 'simple saver' plastic liner (or
something similar) is installed to the bottom of the purlins. I still prefer
attaching to the vertical part of the purlin, but that can get tricky, messy,
and a bit ugly. We've used a lot of the sammy-type products (there are other
brands on the market) to hang from the bottom horizontal flange of the purlins
- in particular the products that 'mushroom out' as they're tightened.

Yea, look at the listings carefully - there are limitations on size of pipe
that can be hung, and minimum thickness of the purlin you're attaching to.
Also check the PEMB drawings for any limitations they have for hanging. The
maximum point loads can be pretty small. We're dealing with a couple projects
now where we're installing multiple anchors for each hanger (kinda like a
trapeze bar) to keep the PEMB people happy. You can get really creative if
you're willing to get the PE stamp on it.

Subject: [Sprinklerforum] Hang From Bottom of Purlin

I've was always taught to hang from the vertical leg of a purlin. We have a
case where there will be a barrier installed, and the bottom flange is the
"only" place to hang. If I'm reading the data sheet for Sammy Sidewinders it
looks like there are a couple options, 2" & 3" pipe. Thoughts?

Thank you,
