NFPA 13 2022 28.2.4.9 and subsections governs use of differing sprinklers in
one area, it does not seem like the initial prohibition on mixing Ks for
balancing would apply to your situation especially based on the follow up
language. One concern though would be over discharge caused by the demand of
the extended coverage head vs the standard coverage head. If you’re using a
larger orifice extended coverage where the pressure is low it may not be an
issue, but if you’re using a small high pressure extended coverage head it may
drive the demand of the non extended coverage heads way up anyway. Incorrect
head replacement would be the other issue. Often you see ½ standard coverage
and ¾ extended mixed which typically mitigates most of the over discharge
concern and limits the possibility of a head mix up if replacement is required
and/or at install time.

Subject: [Sprinklerforum] Allowed to mix extended coverage & standard spray
coverage?
Importance: High

All, Is there anything in the code preventing the installation of extended
coverage and standard spray coverage heads of the same style (i. e. semi-rec.
style) in the same area? Assuming there is code issue, what are thoughts on
taking this
