No they are not required to be QR. We have an inner office discussion going, and one of my engineers is insisting that unless the ordinary hazard sprinklers are QR than we will need a draft curtain.
My feeling is the 10’-0” change in elevation should serve as the draft curtain, eliminating the need for the ordinary hazard sprinklers to be quick response where located adjacent to the ESFR sprinklers. For the record, Bruce - what is the concern regarding QR sprinklers? They're not required for an OH occupancy, right? sincerely, Ken Wagoner, SET Parsley Consulting 500 West Mechanic Street Harrisonville, Missouri 64701-2235 Phone: (760) 745-6181 Visit the website <https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=http%3a%2f%2fwww.parsleyconsulting.com%2f&c=E,1,Y5zKJKPEh1mBEBqSR-VE9cUKl5y-eyP8BpvmE_5j9ZqW2eJbNphYzrCMBZ-2YuX6d-RRkHI4gQ1FV-cvOeCfRC58uZS9NiToZv2mx7909oCqLvCW_n5hDHeK&typo=1> On 8/9/2022 12:33 PM, Brett Peters wrote: NFPA 13 12.3 - elevation change of at least 2'-0 and above an aisle with a minimum of 2'-0 of clearance to each side of the center of the aisle. The higher roof will have ESFR protection. The lower roof will be ordinary hazard. I would like to utilize extended coverage sprinkler heads at the lower roof on a spacing of 20’-0” x 20’-0” This spacing voids the QR rating of the extended coverage sprinkler. I thought that there was something in the code that I cannot find where it talks of change in roof height. So my question is would the change in roof height serve at a draft curtain between the 2 systems. Bruce Hermanson President TSFP Holdings Inc.
