You can find the patch at www.tusc.com.au/Conf.pm.diff. Note it is for 2.54 only, but should be easily adapted to suit any version. I needed to do this for a couple of reasons, mostly because these machines are gateways for an MS Exchange Server, and operate in our DMZ. Each user has several aliases, and it was easier to Join an alias and userpref table to handle these. Each user can alter their settings using an internally available web page. The code in the page updates the alias table, based on an LDAP query, each time they log in.
This patch seems to have fallen out of Bugzilla, even though it was slated to be "included in 2.70" ;-). Guess that means there needs to be some discussion as to how to make SQL based user prefs suit everyone. It also includes a method to allow the Subject tag to be Appended rather than pre-pended. Yes, we have some pretty anal people around here. (think like "Sixth Sense" only more along the lines "I see dumb people......they're everywhere.....they walk around like everyone else....they don't even know that they're dumb...and....some of them....They Work Here!")
