Which obviously doesn't make much of a difference if you are talking
about software like spamassassin. 

It is a matter of taste, I like RPMS at home and at work because:
- I can remove (or upgrade) software very easy
- I can find out which file is owned by which package
- I get warnings about file conflicts and dependencies
- I can update lots of machines very easy with yum or apt 
- there are people like fedora, dag and freshrpms out there building
  solid RPMS for more packages than I would have time to do myself
- I get the same setup on multiple machines, which can make debugging
  a lot easier

what I don't like about RPMS:
- I have to build them first, creating new spec files if I can't find
  one that fits
