I would like to second the notion that having to specify SYSCONFDIR
is going to cause sys-admins problems that do not follow this list. I
have no problem with the idea in principle; I just think it needs to be
well documented, preferable with a run-time-install check. The
SYSCONFDIR issue was the one major problem I personally encountered
during installation.

Sincerely,

Ah. Reading through the suggestions on Bugzilla - having everything in
/usr/local/etc may be 'consistant' with SpamAssassin , but it's going
to
cause upgrade headaches, especially if it defaulted otherwise.

Perhaps the Makefile.PL could check to see which already exists
(/etc/mail/spamassassin or /usr/local/etc/mail/spamassassin), and use
that
one. Or, ask, like it does for Razor2.

Simply switching between versions however is a bad idea.
