OK, this is 2.60 release candidate 2; it should work pretty excellently, but we want to give it a day or two before it gets an official thumbs-up. You can download it from http://SpamAssassin.org/released/ -- note: the release candidates are not listed on the SA Download page and will not be available via CPAN.
First of all, great work to everyone involved, some initial testing shows that 2.60-rc2 is much more effective than 2.55. I've had the two running in parallel for a few days and almost without fail spam scores a lot higher than before. In one very obvious case, 2.55 scored a particular spam at 5.2, while 2.60 scored it at 38 :) (mainly due to the new RBL's in that case I think) In general there is about a 30% increase in spam scores, and a noticable decrease in ham scores... (better seperation)
A few questions though....
I notice the default auto learn thresholds have been readjusted now to 0.1 for ham and 12 for spam presumably based on the new rules and scoreset that have few negative rules. Because this is almost the same as what I was already using on 2.55 I'm curious to know if the new values were chosen empirically or whether some kind of stats were involved to check the lowest scores of spam and the highest scores of ham etc...
I have some concern though that the default behaviour in report_safe 0 mode now of not adding an X-Spam-Report header *at all* is going to cause a lot of confusion and "what happened to the report?" messages from people on the mailing list :)
It could result in even more RTFM replies than the introduction of report_safe 1 as a default in 2.50... (I still remember the uproar over that :)
Although I found it after a bit of prodding by Theo, I don't think adding:
add_header spam Report _SUMMARY_
Is obvious or intuitive at all. What most people are going to see is that their Report goes missing when they upgrade, with no obvious reason why or how to get it back...
I can see that the reason for doing this is to have the report header off in report_safe 1 mode, since it is a duplication, but is there a way for it to be on by default in report_safe 0 ?
Another quick question, I see that it looks like the number of stars displayed on X-Spam-Level is now restricted to 50 stars.... ? :/ Thats unfortunate as part of my procmail script relied on seeing 80 stars or more to be able to detect blacklisted email (only)... and it will be quite difficult to rearrange that along with the user preferences frontend I have...is that 50 star limit staying in ?
Regards, Simon
