Ooooooh... I like the "typo" solution. Keep in mind, of course, that it's possible that the only way to get them to realize they've made a mistake is to *show them* the contents of .dev.null. (Especially if you've set up your filtering criteria such that they'll be almost certain to give a few critical FPs at the same time...) Until they see: "Hey, there's mail from my wife in there!", they may very well be thinking "Only spam goes into the spam black-hole." Just like most people think that "only porn sites get blocked by porn filters".
Our spam gets stored in a 3-day quarantine. When people say "I want to see my spam before it's deleted," we point them to the quarantine interface. If people ask us to delete all the spam, we just don't tell them about the quarantine.
