And in my case, completely impratical.  We use a cluster of machines to
handle mail.  2 mail exchangers and 2 customer smtp/pop3/imap servers. 
All 4 machines have access to the same mail spool using maildir (no
locking problem there).  We do filtering on all machines (all scan for
infections and spam).

A central bayes DB is the best solution.  All machines benefit from the
ham and spam learned from other machines.
