I'm surpressing the urge to make a cute remark about "nothing was touched
in that area of code". (G) Too many years in this business makes me
superstitious.

:)

So... that still leaves the mystery that 2.55 seems slightly less
discriminator thay 2.60. Let's let this drop until I have a few thousand
spams caught and then I'll pick it up if its warrantted.

Just thinking - you reduced your rbl_timeout to 5 didn't you ? (Like me) Possibly it is timing out sometimes, so not all messages would be getting RBL checks done if there were DNS delays... maybe bump it up to 10 seconds and see if that has an effect...

And a little bit more thinking suggests another possibility - if there IS an RBL timeout, for example now that one of the RBL's used is down, anybody who doesn't have that score zero'ed out will be experiencing an RBL timeout, does that mean that ALL rbl tests will be skipped, or RBL tests AFTER that one will be skipped ?

Maybe the developers can tell us just what does happen when an RBL timeout occurs, because I have the sinking feeling that it causes ALL rbl checks to be skipped for that message.... Also are the dns lookups done one after another or in parallel ?

The ideal way to do it would be to send out all the queries in parallel (asyncronously) at the start of the SA run, and receive the replies during the rbl_timeout period, so only those which actually did time out will fail to run. I have a suspicion this is not the way it works now however....

Simon
