Well, after applying the change from ': (' to ':\s*(' in the relevant
regexp, I /seem/ to have had the problem go away...

If I spot it again I will be shouting. OTOH, out of the last few hundred
messages on linux-kernel I have not seen it and that was where it really
showed up.

So, I am hopeful that it's fixed. If it's still gone in a few days I
will be submitting a Debian bug report with the patch, too, in the hopes
of getting the package changed before the next major release...
