I actually think stocktrap is the better idea. Simple idea and I reckon people would pay for it. Its like GroupMe meets stocks announcements.
I'd be interested to see whether you could build it as a web app/ native app and use push notifications. The thing I like about SMS is that you will always receive it - well in more cases than push notifications! That is the advantage of SMS over push notifications (i.e. GroupMe vs Beluga). This data is so valuable that people want to ensure that they recieve it. I'm guessing you are using an aggregator like Iguana to get real time stock data via an XML feed. Very cool.
