Solved my own problem! The problem was with ZoneAlarm, which I couldn't see
for some reason on either pc1 or pc2. Running fine now.
I'm using VNC on a W2k SP2 box (pc1) to control another W2k SP2 box (pc2)
via the Internet - works great!
I'd like to be able to control a 3rd machine, also a W2k

I'd like to be able to control a 3rd machine, also a W2k SP2 box (pc3)
which is linked by a 10/100 ethernet connection to the 2nd machine (pc2).

If it's a big concern, you can always look for the icon and turn off VNC
until you are done with that PC

I understand that tightvnc has the capability of requiring approval of the
host/server before permitting a log-on. You may want to look at the
advanced settings section at:

Just a thought if you want a teleteaching tool, there was one mentioned on

There is a tool for teleteaching available:

I've read the faq's and the documentation and I think I see hints of how to
do this, but I'm just not sure.
My problem:
I have 6 Win 98 SE machines set up behind a single router (Cayman 3220-H).
I've managed to forward ports 5800 and 5900 to one of the machines and can
connect very nicely too
Sounds as if the have invented the same thing that Tony Caduto has already
released - VNC Commander. Which runs great, BTW! And his already has file
transfer...

Fred,
There _are_ other free personal firewalls. Tiny Personal Firewall is
reported to be more adaptable and reliable than ZA. There are probably
others as well. You may want to look at a newsgroup, comp.dcom.modems.cable
(covers dsl also). Also, do you have ZA set for medium security? Set on
Tony,
Also suggest you chose 8-bit and set the displays for the fewest colors you
can live with. If you aren't using tightVNC, suggest you take a look at it
as well. You _can_ get quite (IMHO) tolerable performance on a 10 MBit line.

Markus,
Assume you've looked at http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/winvnc.html for
authhost usage?
Failing that, one easy way to restrict the server to a single IP address is
to set up a firewall, such as ZoneAlarm, which is free, to accept only a
single IP.

Most routers will support port forwarding (also called pinholes). Your
manual should tell you how to open the particular ports you need and
forward them to particular machines on the LAN.
If you are working with Windows, hovering the cursor over the VNC icon will
report the internal IP address
Keith,
I had the same problem. VNC Commander will let you scale the host screen by
% factors. VNC will let you play with screen definition which isn't as
satisfactory. Recommend you look at VNC Commander.
You can get a free version of Tony Caduto's work

Luke,
Just a thought. If /all/ the machines are restricted to dial up modems and
the only Internet connection is thru AOL, you might well find it a lot
easier to set up pcAnyWhere. I suspect it is a lot easier to deal with on a
dial up situation that trying to use VNC. I'm not sure you can set
vice to networks myself. How do I give I computer an IP

The 'smart move" technology is very handy but the darting away is very
disconcerting and I wonder if I need to turn it off or if there is
something else I can do to eliminate the darting away response?

In a fit of early Spring cleaning I managed to delete the absolutely
delicious instructions (long form) for how to get off of the list.
Would some kind soul please take pity on me and either e-mail them to me or
