Dear James Pifer,
dear VNC gurus and users,
admittedly, I'm very happy VNC does _not_ have file transfer
capabilites. For file transfers, other tools (such as scp, included
in the OpenSSH package) are available (thanks to RedHat, even on the
platform that comes from Redmond). As for VNC, its u
I use VNC to connect to several NT 4 servers via various Windows clients
and have never been able to copy from the server to the client. From the
client to the server has never been a problem. I just had a thought
while signing up for the list that it might be something to do with
running VNC as a
Most definitely. :)

I've even downloaded the files again as I rebuilt my server twice in the

Hi Steve,
maybe you should look into installing Cygwin on the Windows-xx-boxes -
it will allow you to use OpenSSH even on those systems. The
www.redhat.com web site used to have a link about it, and the OpenSSH
port for Windows has been written by Corinna Vinschen, Redhat, if my

Is there some fundamental incompatibility between VNC and Real's
RealPlayer A/V viewer/player? When I try to view video clips via
Real's software over VNC, I just get a black screen.
And suggestions?
Thanks.

Thank you to those who suggested that the problem was video card
processing (which is invisible to VNC). Fortunately, Real's software
has a switch to turn this processing off. Once I did that (and
restarted the s/w --- the changes don't take effect immediately!) I
was able to view RealPlayer ove

On my version (RealPlayer 8), it's under

Uncheck the box marked "Use optimized video
Does the usual Windows VNC work with XP? Are there any known (or

Thanks.

I have VNC running beauifully under a RH 7.2 system, but the JAVA part
doesn't work. I can telnet to the http port, so I know the server is
listening, but that's as far as I get.
Looking through the docs, I see that:
If you are using the X-based VNC server, you may need to
