As you probably have realized, I'm very new at this and I appreciate your

When you say on the traceroute path, I have absolutely no idea what you are
talking about. (Some newbie!) When I guess, all I picture that anyone on the
net can grab the server.

If you don't mind, I'd appreciate a little educating.

Yes, but be aware that is is unencrypted and so anyone in between can
see what you're doing if they want to.  Also, anyone on the traceroute
path can gain control of your VNC server.
