Andrew,
Do the VNC developer know about this problem?
It really is a pain, and we are now switching to PC anywhere just because
of that fact.
I can't imagine that it would be that hard for them to fix.

I'm confused why it won't work internally at work. Any ideas on that?
I've got the display number set to 59716 and still get the RFB message
when trying via a browser, and get "Failed to connect to server" error
when I do it via the normal client.

Hmm...I don't think this is going to work if you want to use the
browser-based viewer. The problem is there are *two* ports involved for
that, one to serve up the viewer and one to make the VNC connection, and
only one of them can be port 80. ;) If you use the stand-alone viewer it
should work o

Ok, I have set my display number to be 59716. When I type in "http://" into my browser, I get the message "RFB 003.003" message.
I have tried forwarding port 80 to port 5900 and 5800 to the box I'm
trying to access, but get the RFB message either way.

To calculate the port number Casper, simply use the appropriate
formula below:
To select a port number higher than 5900:
Display Number = [desired port number] - 5900
To select a port number lower than 5900:
Display Number = [desired port number]
Thanks for that information. However, when I try to type in "-5820" in my
display number field, it won't accept the "-". Is this correct? How can
I set VNC to run on port 80 if it won't take the negative number?
Thanks again,

There's also a company that makes 'fake' video cards that emulate an MDA or

that which could also do graphics modes would be incredibly useful, but
probably also much more expensive. (Not that the serial-based ones are

There is a way to stop the local user being able to disable VNC. It's a bit
