They didn't tweak the server, they use the different approach of the Xvnc server: From a Windows machine, you can only export the console. From a unix machine, Xvnc is just an other (software) display, of which many more than 1 can be started. I think their hardware can easily access Windows too but from their point of view, it's not verry usefull.
