I have used Thunderbird since it came out and they made sure it is the servant and not the master. Easy to setup, has good built in tools for selecting server connections and ports and selecting your desired level of security. It will import all mail lists and settings, selectively if you want.

Jack, It’s a free download, so just go to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ and download it. Check the “Features” link at the bottom of that page. Google around for tutorials and forums. Like any FOSS (Free/Open Source Software) it will have a learning curve. It will do things differe
