Troubles with rsync

I keep a repo of the packages for Fedora on a NAS system on a linksys router.  The file system is ntfs.  rsync has stopped being able to synchronize the package files from the updates in cache/dnf.  Piping the updates through cpio works but complains about not being able to set the permissions

Need system to run 24/7

This thread has been on before but I lost it. I need my system to run long simulations without my intervention. It keeps going to a reboot intermittently.  The program has recovery that all is not lost with a shutdown but the time getting back to check on the system.  Don't remember the setting

The display manager shows the standard user but entering the password just recycles back to the display manager. Switching to root logs in. A terminal boot lets the user log in but the graphical session fails to connect to the display. Creating an new user can log in from the display manager.

F29 KDE weirdness

Upgraded to F29. On KDE desktop starting EMACS in a privileged command window locks the system. Starting EMACS with sudo locks the system. On XFCE4 normal EMACS access with privilege. Other file managers don't like root but there are times when cli is awkward. __

File managers in F29 don't see Windows Shares

After upgrade from f27 to f29 the file managers (caja thunar dolphin) don't show the windows workgroups on my network.  There is one on a pair of windows  machines and another on a Linksys NAS.  I can manually access the shares with the appropriate cifs mount command. Robert __

What does one do in the new environment to run different versions of linux on different drives of a system. One system has f31 on sda and centos7 on sdb. With legacy grub I could call the boot of one system from the other and vice versa. No more. Switching drives in the bios no longer works. I

sddm missing pieces

With sddm as the display manager for a f35 system get a black screen with a mouse cursor but limited response to the keyboard. Can only switch to an alternate screen and then enter commands. Can use lightdm. Don't see anything wrong in sddm.conf. Is sddm tied to wayland and won't run in X11 ?

VM Setup

Xeon 8 core machine with 16G. Fedora 35 server installed. Have CentOS8 installed in qemu/kvm virtual machine. What would be the appropriate configuration of processor access and memory to get reasonable response from the vm? With 4 processors and 2G response is atrocious. _
