Still this report describes a generic symptom, and not a specific
problem that can be analyzed and solved.
Blank screen bugs happen for a host of different reasons, but without
collecting and providing the necessary diagnostics, no analysis can be
done.

I am also affected by this problem.
After the boot splash, sometimes the screens turns black and stays this way, no
switching to TTYs is possible. Rebooting via powerbutton is possible. Most of
the time this bug does not happen but only sometimes.
Freshly installed Ubuntu 10.10 with no modificat

I have a similar problem. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 x64 on a AMD Athlon X2
64 4800 with ATI HD2600XT and 2GB RAM. Today I wanted to upgrade my RAM
to 4GB. After I've installed the new RAM the locks up after the Ubuntu
loading screen. If I remove any memory chip the PC boots ok. Also if I
boot in Xfail
