Same problem here with an intel video card.
The same problem when I run from gnome-terminal:
sudo X -query myxdmcpserver :1
To reproduce it I can login at gdm xdmcp screen, run openoffice,
gcalctool, and when I run another app, it crashes with the message from

I successfully compiled nvidia 185.18.14 driver on kernel 2.6.31-1 with these
commands:
cd /usr/src/nvidia-185.18.14/patches/
sudo wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/28552081/drm_agp_memory
I experience the same symptoms. I was not able to test it on 8.10
because my USB keyboard was not around. I'm running 9.04 now and ever
since I started using my USB keyboard again, I've had this issue. I
believe the issue was absent in 8.04 but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Suggestion: It looks like a non-free driver for SiS graphics cards
exists - this should be packaged alongside / similarly to the nvidia
non-free graphics drivers?
