I probably spend a few quid in CD-R's as I keep loosing the ubuntu ones.
Having a printed one is a benefit as it is distinguishable. Could this be
the version for the non techies, due to the support provided? Great for
parents etc.

I've just set myself up a GPG key etc., and was wondering if anyone
could recommend which keyserver to use? There are a couple of examples
in the default gpg.conf file, but so gpg hasn't been able to retrieve
the public keys for any of the signatures I've seen so far (mainly in
this mailing list).
Great would be the best word - a tenner for a boxd version with a manual and
corporate support - bargain!!

Well, so far found the Open Home Automation Project, but doesn't seem to
have been updated since July last year.
Plenty of "freeware" too, but not on sites that I recognise. And of course
the proprietory stuff too.

It will be ready when it is ready :-)
I think Rasterman is distracted with some phone software atm.

I seem to recall from previous postings that we have a couple of home
automation peeps lurking on the list.
I've been presented with a "working" temperature sensor that uses RS-485
standard, together with a USB convertor. The problem is that it came with
no software to grab hold of /

I have hit a snag. Using synaptic, I installed VirtualBox and it
certainly starts up OK. However, after setting things up, I cannot start
the virtual set up but get an error message saying that I am missing
some kernel file. I must have missed something but I am not sure what it
is. Could you help

Has anyone connected a Samsung C300 mobile to their Ubuntu PC? I'm
thinking I should back up my address book, but I don't want to buy a
data cable if it won't work anyway. Mean, me? - never! :)
I know this is a pretty basic handset.

Thank you all for the swift response from which I gather that VirtualBox
is the preferred option. I have a proper disc of Windows XP Pro with key
so that is no problem. I will give things a go over the next few days
and report back.

Much like Michael I also use virtual-box, but I would add that depending
on your circumstances you may need the PUEL edition. This is not open
source, but it is still free (as in beer) for personal use. The main
feature it has that the open source edition does not is that it can
share USB devices b
I installed virtualbox/winXP yesterday, it works really well. I am running
photoshop in it and the performance is good. You do need a reasonably beefy
machine, I have a Dual core athlon(around 2ghz) and 3gb of ram.
The only thing that wasn't working was USB, but this can probably be fixed
