I didn't crash all day today except when I started using vmware. Then I
had 3 crashes in 30 mins.

Today's crash, no vmware was running. Only difference with today's
crash was that it restarted by itself. Was running gedit.
Seems if I do certain things (like use terminals + use chrome) I can go
hours without a crash. But if I do certain things like use VMware or
use gedit, a crash is imminen
I've since started trying out Linux Mint LMDE. I like Gnome 3 + Mate in
Linux Mint 12, but I need stability and performance. Performance in
LMDE is better and haven't had any crashes, etc.

@Vladimir, did you have anything else running in the background? I've
found if all I'm running is chrome + terminal + files, I will never
crash, no matter how much switching apps I do. And regardless of what
sites I have open, or the number of tabs I have open. Just for
clarification, I have fla

the cpu mode from ondemand to powersave using cpufreq, but experience my
crashes seem to be independent of if the cpu is adaptive or not. But
perhaps my lite use of chrome doesn't thrust the cpu, but certain

my graphic card is also integrated, so it's not a ATI or Radeon issue.
Issue happens on both a Thinkpad T410 with Radeon discrete graphics and

In both cases I encounter the freezing/crash or gnome-shell becomes so

More facts:
1.
- using vmware with 3d acceleration checked -> crash EVERYTIME within 30 mins
+ using vmware with no 3d acceleration checked -> no crash after 3 hours
2.
+ using chrome (many tabs) -> no crash after hours and days
- using chrome navigating to youtube.com and playing a video -> crash
@Wei En, I had compiz installed only the first day I had Mint installed
and thought maybe it was causing issues, so uninstalled it. So the
crashes can't be related to it since I have it uninstalled (unless there
is some shared lib still in use?).

This problem is occurring for me. I'm new to Mint 12, only installed
yesterday for the first time. Since then, I've randomly crashed 6 times
so far, each time I was doing something completely different with
nothing similar. It is a fresh install with all latest updates applied,
but not much cust
I will try disabling the reflexion extension. Is there anything else I
should try doing to capture more details about the crashes?
Like I said, I just did a fresh install (for first time) yesterday to
Mint 12 (used to use Ubuntu 10.10, did a full replacement by
reformatting and installing Mint).
