Hi,
I'm getting what I think is precisely the same problem, twice since
upgrading from Hardy to Intrepid yesterday. Both times JOSM was the
foreground app; this a Java app for editing OpenStreetMap. I've never
had this problem on Hardy.

Small (190 kb) and innocent pdf files with quite long file names (of the order

because I read some stuff about the libpata (?) driver for NVidia and
that they changed things around. I have a Asus A8N-VM CSM myself, but
the SIL3114 is really different from my 'IDE interface: nVidia

That setting solves the problem in the tests I did.

dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg results in attached xorg.conf. I
did have to specify i810 instead of vesa myself, and my 1280x800 lcd
resolution was not autodetected, but the synaptics touchpad was there.

On Feisty [amd64] this problem is still there. I have a Samsung ML1210
which worked perfectly fine under Dapper. I skipped Edgy and I am now
also noticing the same bar on the test page as well as faulty printed
images when I tried to print those on my clean Feisty install!

I am experiencing the same problem in Feisty now. I was using Dapper
before but now my .gnome2/ dir also fills up with seahorse-?? files.
Dapper did not have this kind of behavior.

In Feisty I have the same problem with Nvidia/Xinerama/AMD64. The
workaround posted above (Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True") works around
the problem and gnome-terminal will start OK again.
