As this seems to affect mostly users of the de. mirror I subscribed the owner
of that mirror to this bug (hope this is the right way to go about it).
Changing to the German NetCologne mirror fixed this issue for me for now. It
was an ongoing problem with several Trusty servers for several month.

I found a workaround - ugly, but it works.
I installed dnsmaq, which is a dnscache and then I configured dnsmasq
with my dns servers (in fact I use OpenDNS) like this
# Add other name servers here, with domain specs if they are for
# non-public domains.
#server=/localnet/192.168.0.1
server=208.67
Problem also exists in Edgy Eft.

I doubt that this bug is i810 specific. Something similar happens also
with the ATI driver. See also bug #70963.

I have observed this bug on two different laptops, one running Edgy with the
free ATI driver, and one running Dapper with the free Intel driver (both were
fresh installs):
xrandr -s works just fine after a fresh reboot, but stops working entirely
after the laptop has gone through a suspend/resum

Update: It turns out that ifdown is only a temporary fix, after a while
the wireless network always comes back. Is there any way to temporary

I stilt have the the problem on every boot. System fully updated. plymouth -
0.8.0~-9ubuntu1
Using the binary nvidia driver.
No logo during boot, but white and blue line.
Output after using Alt+SysRq+K to restart:
