Hey, few good news.
The laptop did not had the same problem, which let me wonder if the
sudo and their dependencies were really the same version, and they
ware not.
After 2 minutes, and an apt-get clear, apt-get update, apt-get upgrade
it updated several packages and it was then ok.

I haven't use the wrong color pallet to realize it also has the sync in
near the horizontal edges problem.

It got to be related, thogh has nothing to do with xorg.
In the text mode console (such as Ctrl+Alt+F2 TTY), it shows nothing!!

I don't know why Gutsy insisted in forcing the Vesa driver instead of
the neomagic...
Changing it on my /etc/X11/xorg.conf it worked better... at least the
color is no longer purple.

Wait as I might, the flashing effect wont start... hence is was all a
vesa driver problem.
Now, how come vesa driver was selected this time on gutsy instead of

I already had the A09 version, so it could not be this.
But I also had the video buffer on 1MB.
Changing it to 8MB solved the problem.
That is good, no doubt, but I have no idea why it was causing this issue or

It fails when I past the command on the shell too.
It fails if I copy the file to the /home folder too.
It does not fail in every single file format... it might be a codec

My bash on Feisty wont autocomplete any command after a sudo with TAB.
e.g: $ cront will get me $ crontab
and now $ sudo cront will only beep
The only .bashrc odd opotion I use, since Breeze, is shopt -s cdspell
Advanced autocompletion worked fine on Edgy.

I have tried to manually add the nvidia binary for the legacy hardware.
The current version at nvidia will not find a correspondent version for
my kernel, nor it can build on demand (failed dependency).

this also solved for me in my test server... I think its the only issue
that still prevents my upgrade to 10.04 in the official server.

Due to every advantage I would get, I did the do-release-upgrade in my
production server from 9.10 to 10.04 ... of course, redmine was dead due
to this issue.
I had then download the packages Marco has built and presto - redmine is
