Since i have installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my PC, I haven't got no sound at all.
The PC is an AMD Phenom 9950, 4Gb of RAM (800Mhz), Motherboard Asus M3N78-VM
(audio and video onboard).

I have a Phenom 9950, mother Asus M3n78-VM, 4Gb DDR2 Supertalent 800MHz and a
HD IDE 160Gb.
When I boot Ubuntu 8.10 (for amd 64bits) for the second time
In my case, the problems begin with an old IDE CD-RW Sonny conected to the
same cable than the HDD (Ide too).
When I removed the CD-RW the problem has gone..

I have a Toshiba U300 with a volume sound button at left. If I touch it
a notification appears at the top right corner. I think that
notification is produced by "notify-osd".
This event doesn't stop ! It consumes all CPU and keyboard is almost
o usefull information is written to
.cache/notify-osd.log. But in that case a back backgroud notification
appears on the top right corner, blinking eternaly. Nothing was written to
the log file.
Where should I check more ?

This is certainly a paper cut. The version of Ubuntu and the kernel
should be available in the GUI. Users should not have to resort to
Google and the command line to find out what version they're running.

I didn't touch anything of that from the BIOS.
Now i have installed the 180.29 drivers from nvidia and all mentioned
problems are still there. I tryed with 32 and 64 bits Intrepid distros,
and even with Jaunty.
When I said "freezes", I mean that mouse, keyboard and screen are

Actually, I had this issue corrected by adding the folling parameter on
"the /boot/grub/menu.lst" boot:

So the line that was:

I had this same problem. I am running hardy.
Having read it was a superkaramba problem I disabled it and everything worked
fine.
Later I tried again with superkaramba on, and find out it as superkaramba
widget, wich monitors system activity was freezing the system. I can run
