Looks like this is caused by the same (stupid) patch that is causing

AFAIK glibc2.9 no longer requires this patch as it implements a unified
A/ lookup mechanism. Upstream is no longer applying the patch to the

I have checked /sys/module/video/parameters/brightness_switch_enabled
and I get N, so the parameter is loading, but it still works the flacky

I have tried installing Jaunty's g-p-m and that one will work as in
jaunty, reducing brightness and so on when I unplug from AC. It still
has trouble with the discharging/charged state, but since that one
relays on the battery not reporting properly, it's ok that way.

I've noticed quite and odd problem. I don't know if it has to do with
the kernel, with acpi or it simply is a powertop bug. I boot my laptop
and run powertop, and I get ~3 Wakeups from idle per second. Also,
my C2 state is whatever % but the average residency in

to Evo
Additional information:
If I log out and once log in, I can see that all application were still
running in the background. If I start Firefox the application tells me
that it was closed properly. Firefox asks me if it should continue
browsing at the same web adress.

exact settings (I am only a DAU).
2) Yes, Gnome shows the some beavior if using "show desktop" panel
applet.

I checked "compiz", using "systems" -> "system settings" -> "system
monitor". "Compiz" seems to worke fine, but over and over again
"firefox" starts to crash. Besides, my Ubuntu 8.10 is up to date. I use
the latest version.
You are right, the top row of the window does not work. How can I fix
that

In 4) for I wrote, that the top of the row usable. This changed the last
24 hours, because I changed some settings in "compiz" to get my desktop
somehow work. The top row appeared randomly and since then 12 hours it
is gone.
But I read now your hints...

Problem solved.
Was an incompatible combination of settings in compiz.
