Well I see this what I believe to be this bug with Gutsy but not
Drapper. And in Gutsy it affects all but text-mode: that is both
Graphical boot screen AND X, both in the live CD + when installed. Not
knowing how to override to a textmode install I had to used the live CD
by pushing Ctrl+Alt+Minus
Oh and safe VGA mode on the CD had the same issues!

testing has the latest build and adds features and ups performance. It
also adds the ability to deamonize into the code so there doesn't have
to be such a hack in the init script.

So it's not vim. On the off chance it was, I switched to emacs22-gtk and
I'm still getting the same problems. I also discovered "xset r on",
which does wonders for me not having to click on menus to get key repeat
back (and demonstrates that key repeat really is an X thing rather than
a gnome thing
I have same problem and I use dual booting system (Ubuntu 8.04 and
Windows XP) from my Dell desktop. Somehow, the second screen displays
same contents as the main one, and the System->Preferences->Screen
Resolution menu doesn't seem to allow the second monitor to display
different contents. FYI,

As for the Kubuntu / Xubuntu conflict, that's really not a valid
argument. The technical issue of properly configuring for pulse only
when pulse is installed seems trivial, and - in any case - the usability

After upgrading to Hardy, my Asus Z71V laptop started over-aggressively
dimming the brightness based on the built in light sensor. I could read
the screen comfortably if I shined a light *on* the sensor, but in low
light conditions the screen was significantly too dim.

that Ubuntu made and didn't properly support. This stuff works in Debian
because they use bash as /bin/sh. Using dash is great, but every package
that it breaks is an Ubuntu bug that can't be pawned off on upstream.
