Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Hardy, my Asus Z71V laptop started over-aggressively
dimming the brightness based on the built in light sensor. I could read
the screen comfortably if I shined a light *on* the sensor, but in low
light conditions the screen was significantly too dim.

The brightness keys (Fn + F5 / Fn + F6) have no effect at all.

I've disabled the ambient light sensor and turned the brightness back up using
the instructions in this thread:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=38935

It would be nice if the dynamic brightness were set a bit higher and the
keys worked, but if that's not possible then it might be a good idea to
ignore the light sensor by default.
