Public bug reported: Hardy Beta Install CD (Xubuntu): I ran the install CD with the safe video option (F4 on the boot menu) as part of a workaround for the default video settings exceeding what my monitor/s can handle.
The resulting install has been awful - setting the video mode (say when Xorg starts or switching to the virtual consoles eg. Ctrl-Alt-F1) often fails with the with the video mode misprogrammed - ie. timing off (sync issues), garbage and other artifacts, sometimes only a portion of the screen visible (possibly repeated in a tiled fashion). This occured with both the open source and proprietary drivers used for my Nvidia card. This issue seems to be resolved however by removing the "xforcevesa" option from Grub's startup, which is not something that I choose or added, and I assume appeared running the install CD in it's safe video mode because I don't believe it to be set under normal circumstances. I believe the options to run the live CD/install CD should NOT be inherited by default for the resulting installation unless confirmed by the user ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: cd grub hardy install xforcevesa -- Setting Hardy Beta InstallCD to safe vid mode effects installed system https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/205077 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
