Yes the problem goes away with disabling the desktop effects. I am
really curious on how the desktop effects can lead to this problem?
Anyway, this puts the ball at either the OpenOffice -, ATI driver - or
the Compiz team :-) It's not too serious, thank you for your help.

Same problem here, but with an AMD 790X chipset. Just starting the live

I can confirm this bug, but with a slightly different thing: changing
the transparency of the background. If I open two terminals in and

And same problem here in Xubuntu using an Audigy 4 card. I can post
Dmesg etc. later if you really need to have thenm, but they look almost
identical to the first post, concerning the sound parts.

I have downloaded the Feisty daily build of April 15th (since I don't
have an Ubuntu internet connection without wireless, (dual boot
windows)). Reinstalled the system and started again. Kernel
2.6.20-15-generic (AMD64), used synaptic to get Ndiswrapper 1.9
installed and Ndiswrapper common. Downloa
I am sure with time I can make it work manually with WPA also, but I don't know
how to edit the interfaces file the right way.
Did you use gnome-network-manager? Or configured it manually / another way?

I would love to use that, but the chipset is not Broadcom = Asus WL-138g
v2, but Marvell = Asus WL-138g v1. Marvell has no Linux drivers for this
chipset as far as I can see. Neither has Asus.
