I've had this problem too, but can't reproduce it on demand. Sometimes
changing the background image works fine, other times it doesn't.
gconf-editor shows that the key
/desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename is changed to contain the
path to the newly selected image, but the desktop background
BTW, I've had it happen under gutsy (7.10) on two different PCs, and on
hardy (8.04.1) on one of these two (the other is still running gutsy).
The one running hardy is a clean installation rather than a dist-
upgrade.

I commented on the previous bug. Mine is a dv5230tx, Intel T2250
Core2Duo, PRO/Wireless 3945ABG wireless and nVidia GeForce Go 7400.
Suspend/resume had never worked for me until I upgraded to Intrepid
(I've tried every release since Dapper) and now it works almost
flawlessly.

This appears to have been fixed in Intrepid (xterm-235-1ubuntu1.1).
I've launched a couple of hundred xterms from the panel and they've all

Hibernate and suspend now work (and resume correctly, most of the time)
on my dv5230tx with Intrepid with kernel version 2.26.27-9.19 and with
linux-backports-modules-2.6.27-9.5 installed.
Occasionally, I have to reboot after resuming from hibernation, usually
because NetworkManager hasn't come up
Similar crash here. Up-to-date Intrepid, kismet-2008-05-R1-4, iwl3945
wireless. Leaves wireless networking broken.
To get wireless networking working again, I don't need to unload
iwl3945, disabling then re-enabling wireless networking (with nm-applet)
does the job.

I had two computers (an old dual PII-350 which is now dead and a Dell

I can also confirm this problem on my Pavilion dv5230tx (dv5000 series),
running feisty 32-bit. It suspends but won't resume (requires complete
power off to recover). It did the same on dapper.
Hibernate and resume used to work on dapper, but now it hibernates OK
but reboots rather than resuming

I tested one of the Jaunty RCs and it didn't resume, but my laptop's HDD
failed and I never did upgrade to Jaunty so I don't know whether the
final release worked or not.
