Experiencing similar behaviour from zenbook ux302lg. Pinning and
upgrading to trusty kernel gives me slightly different outcomes (I get a
backlight down and red streak appear) before backlights up and blank
screen where I hear the Cowbell of lightdm.
I don't get the red tear at all with Saucy def

Unfortunately whilst I get the screen up on boot, the first time the
screen is blanked either by power management, or switching a VT or
standby(closing lid) - I "loose" the screen and need to do a reboot to
get it back. Not very useful unfortunately.
I have tried a couple of different 3.12 kernels
I have discusses this bug wirh Keith Packard who happens to be at
lca2014 at the moment and he has adviaed to file it upstream on the
freedesktop.org trac.

Vino does not lookup an IP in the settings dialog like it did previously
( showing you the ... to connect word with the screen number and
hostname ) in oneric. And doing a netstat -ntpl as root shows no
listening vino process on 5900 or any other shifted ( i.e 590[1-9] port.
this occurs when the networking i.e eth0 is setup manually in
/etc/network/interfaces file rather than via nm-manager.
This machine has eth0 lo a torredo device and also a tun0 openvpn device
( all brought up manually )

Issue starts causing degredation of entire system once it occurs,
certainly on my machine appears to be related to the nvidia graphics
card HDMI output.
Will post to nvidia bugs.

Confirm same behaviour on HP Elitebook 2740p (1280x800) Ironlake IPS.
Tried using drm-intel-next (2.6.37-rc2 + drm-intel) repo daily ubuntu autobuild
as of the 20/11/2010 with no joy - (blank pannel, loading from conosle with
i915 modeset=1 causing issue, works vesa only.

I think a packaging bug/request for the firmware should be separate.
The kernel option to enable the kernel specific parts and driver is
simply a .config oversight on the Ubuntu Kernel maintainers behalf. This
driver works well and means users with the card are having to maintain
out of tree v4l-d

Running stable under test conditions reported above with 256.52. vdpau
now does not lock up computer, have not had locks ups during normal
compiz enabled ubuntu-desktop settings. Switching VT's also is ok.
I have not however tested with DPMS turned back on as of yet. And have
not tested with Twinv
