i installed intrepid rc on my eeepc.
i will now try to resolve all remaining issues
so far, i can report that the speed of the sdhc is quite good (30MB/s with
ext2) and that the webcam is working fine...
however, it's true that compiz has to be turned off for the moving of windows
to work correct

philippe, the fact that the restricted drivers manager tells you "no driver is
neccessary" is suspicious...
can you tell us the output of "lspci -nn", please?

i see the following problems with this proposal:
a) wasting developer resources trying to decide what else to put in the dvd to
fill the space
b) with the increasing adoption of live usb sticks, filling the 4.7GB of a dvd
would prevent users from using a 4GB stick for a liveusb
c) additional load
this is not invalid, sound should have worked out of the box, without
the user having to modify /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.

ian, it's likely that in your case the problem is not the driver or
network manager, but that the keyboard shortcut (Fn+F5) is not
recognized, so the rfkill switch never gets toggled
