I received today a report from a friend to whom I gave an Ubuntu 8.04.1
CD to try to install on his wifes Acer Aspire 1353 LC that at some point
during starup of the LiveCD the screen went black. Unfortunatly that's
all the info I have and I could not be there to witness it first hand.

Hi Peter
Yes - I'm running your package (installed it with 'dpkg -i xserver-xorg-
video-intel_2.1.1-0ubuntu9~pcjc2_i386.deb' - is that correct?)
The clean_shutdown and crash logs were copied after booting the machine into
recovery mode - so no X was started after the crash or clean shutdown.

Thank you Till - now it's working again

After todays update of packages the error with jna.jar went away. I
noticed that libc was updated, that might be connected.

I use gutsy and everyday update my packages. A few days ago the bug
disappeared. Today i.e. after my update of yesterday (about 22:00 UTC on
October 16) I get that error again.
Trying to find a workaround I played with things I find mentioned in
ld.so manpage. This had an impact:
/etc/ld.
I used strace to take a look at what is different in the two cases (i.e.
with ld.so.nohwcap and without).
When java is started then obviously a libc is loaded as for almost any
executable program. Depending on the existance of ld.so.nohwcap either
/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 is loaded or /lib/lib
Still doesn't work on my HP compaq nx5000 and nc6000. Running gutsy and
it's 2.6.22-14-generic kernel. Even backlight isn't turned of when
closing the lid (or pressing the lid-switch).

Hi,
i have the same problem when i try to maximize or to move the firefox windows
on the desktop the result is a black screen and a system restart.I can't find a
bug report nowhere but just a second before the restart i have read on the
monitor something like "CPU frequency scaling unsupported".
I used this app (http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/gsynaptics) to avoid the
problem..
After having manually set "SHMConfig" "true" in my xorg.conf, gsynaptics
started and allowed me modifying tapping interval for my Dell Vostro 1500..
I think this is the best workaround we can have..
