It's strange, but the bug hasn't appeared again yet. I've tried a few
more random things, but nothing seems to make it come up again. I
suppose it's always possible that one bad session was a complete

Firefox 15 still truncates downloads to 4 GB
Chromium downloaded all the 4.2 GB. I'm not trolling anything here, just

2. "sudo apt-cache gencaches"
3. ctrl-c in the middle of it
4. sudo apt-get update
5. verify with ls -l /var/cache/apt/ that there is a leftover file
6. install the update
7. repeat 1-4
8 verify with ls -l /var/cache/apt that no file
