But given this is the default appearance in Ubuntu since 11.04 many users will

Gnome 3 has resolved this with a simple solution. Every time the
launcher appears, the windows go scaled. It could be even simpler to
somehow shrink the window like Firefox does when new tab is opened.

Thanks Christian ! It also solved lots of problems for me, mostly logout
and mounting USB.
I encounter it after a fresh install (but keeping an old /home) of
Ubuntu 11.10 amd64 final release.

The spec sheet for that monitor doesn't seem to show these frequency/resolution
pairings, but they should indeed be possible given the scan ranges its capable
of, assuming its efficiency hasn't dropped significantly with age. I wish I

Filtering does not work automatically for me in any recent version up to
9.0.1. I have filters that are correctly formulated, and a few messages

Same here, whereas sound level is normal on Centos 6 (kernel 2.6.32).
Same observation as Lee, newer distro all have this issue. Maybe a
permanent fix won't make it to this release but a documented workaround
(if any exists) would be more than welcome.
